Venezuelan-bred artist Devendra Banhart has grown to be an iconic name in the indie-rock community. Having released eight albums since 2002, Banhart doesn’t seem to be lacking in the inspiration department. Even getting diagnosed with autism in 2005 didn’t slow him down. He chugged right along and teamed up with Anthony and the Johnsons to produce their album I am a Bird Now.
Banhart’s music is captivating. Consistently mixing new wave with Spanish-inspired guitar playing and folk rock, and even throwing in a bit of electronic synthesizing, he isn’t afraid of pushing his boundaries. He does some weird stuff on his albums, but few people seem to mind. It’s all just a part of who Devendra Banhart is as a musician.
