Sprouting from the same musical seed that influenced the similar sounds of fun., Imagine Dragons, and Walk the Moon, Youngblood Hawke sprouted from the organic need to just create something. After leaving their previous project, Simon Katz and Sam Martin just wanted to make music that felt natural to them. They set forth with no plan to form a “new band”, but after the addition of three of their longtime friends, Youngblood Hawke became a fully fledged, working troupe.
Little time passed before the pop-injected indie rock band was selling out shows around their home in Silverlake, CA. They quickly gained the attention of Republic Records and released their first EP in 2012. Youngblood Hawke’s full-length album, Wake Up, full of soaring choruses and youthful melodies, dropped in April of this year and has been receiving an honorable amount of acclaim.
The only issue with Youngblood Hawke’s music is that it’s simply not suitable for sitting around. I’d be surprised if listening to Wake Up while trying to study didn’t wind up instilling a severe case of ADD. It’s just too damn upbeat. So when you do decide you need a bit of this fiery quintet to brighten your day, give them the respect they deserve and set aside some time to really let their music consume you. And just have yourself a little dance.
[Youngblood Hawke performs from 2:10 to 2:55 PM on Sunday, May 26th at the Sasquatch stage.]
