Music festival season is upon us and I could not be more excited! In celebration of my third (!!!) year attending Sasquatch Music Festival at the end of this month, I will be posting once a day featuring an artist I’m looking forward to seeing this year. Of course, I love watching all the bands that play Sasquatch, but I’ll be sharing my top picks for this year’s festival.
Allen Stone was completely off of my music radar before the Sasquatch line-up was released. I followed through with my yearly routine of searching songs from each of the artists and started my own list of artists to look out for at the festival. Allen Stone’s music is a mix of ’80s pop, ’70s lyricism and style and an undeniable inspiration from the greats of soul. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this Seattle musician is a quirky, 24-year-old dude with long, blonde curls who rocks funky hats and a pair of red glasses. His soulful tone is comparable to that Marvin Gaye and Ray Charles and his presence and energy on stage exude a confidence that is undeniably intoxicating. Hitting notes that could compete with the late Whitney Houston, Stone has found himself a solid place in the world of soul and R&B. I’m a sucker for classic sound like this and I look forward to hearing his music live at the Gorge.
Allen Stone will play at 5pm at the Sasquatch stage on Friday, May 25th.
